The Weapon

Chapter 3 - Kidnappers

I woke up on a bedroll. I was confused for a bit as I remembered what happened. I was kidnapped. Her majesty was going to be furious when she found out. I wondered if she'd kill the brute and the healer. I was conflicted on if that made me happy or sad.

I was not in a tent I was in a camp. My bindings were still on and I had bruises on my wrist from my biting earlier. I knew I shouldn't have been biting but at the time I felt like I had too. Now I was plenty free from those feelings. The whispers were soft and ignorable.

I had no jailors. I could do whatever I wanted! I think. I guess those three weird adventurers were around they might stop me.

We were by a small campfire. Only the brown eyed one and the blue eyed one were here.

"Oh look she woke up." The brown one was out of the soldier outfit and was instead a short young woman in some brown robes.

The blue one was a blond haired male warrior with his own armor and sword. "You feeling okay?"

I thought about it. I don't get asked that question much outside of when I was getting medical treatment.

"My wrist is bruised and my stomach is sore but otherwise I am uninjured." I informed him.

"oh, okay, but I meant like emotionally."

I blinked. "What?"

The two of them looked at me rather oddly.

The brown one, or I guess the mage scoffed, "Please tell me you know what emotions are."

"I know what they are, I just have never been asked about mine." I answered. "I'm not stupid, I even know how to read a bit." Only smart people could read.

"Wow you aren't completely illiterate, you must be so smart." The mage had a mean tone I didn't like.

I didn't see any sharp objects outside of their weapons. I turned to the warrior and asked as nicely as I could. "Can I borrow a knife?"

"I don't know, why do you want one?" He asked hesitantly.

"So I can stab her." I pointed at the mage to be extra clear. "I'm free now right? That means I'm allowed to have sharp objects again."

"I told you she's insane. She just threatened me to my face."

"I'm not insane!" I got up to hit her for saying mean things about me. I made it halfway before I was pushed back by a spell.

The warrior got between us. "Stop fighting. No one here is insane. Taena she clearly doesn't know better so give her some slack. And you, Kallista I think it was, you can't stab people just because you don't like them."

"But people don't stop being mean until I stab them." I whined. "Besides healer always heals them anyway."

The warrior sighed, "We don't have a healer here so you can't go stabbing anyone. Okay?"

"Oh." I thought about it and got sad. "I hope they don't kill healer. He was the nice one."

"Healer? You don't know his name?" The mage asked.

"I sort of do, I can't remember names or faces very well but I really tried to learn his. It was Calder I think. I only remember his and her majesty's names." I explain.

"But you call him healer?" The warrior asks.

"Yea, he was Healer and my current guard is Brute. Brute isn't great but she is a lot better than Snake. And you're Warrior, and she's Mage and the one who's not here is Amber."

"Wait why does she get a normal sounding name?" Asked Mage.

"Her eyes are amber colored, before I knew you were a mage and a warrior you were Brown and Blue."

"You're so weird." She remarked.

"My name's Dray not Warrior." Warrior said. "And she's Taena, and our missing member is Kyla."

"Okay? I'm not going to be able to remember those. It took me years to remember Healer's name."

It was then that Amber showed up, and she even had the amber eyed bird too! She had a bow and leather armor. I guess she was a hunter. Hunter asked everyone, "Did I miss anything?"

"Yea it turns out we rescued a cr-" Mage got cut off.

"Taena don't start this again." Warrior growled.

She groaned. "Fine. We rescued a girl who happens to stab everyone she doesn't like and can't remember names or faces."

"Uh…" Hunter eyed me. "Really?"

I shrank under her judging gaze. It made me feel like I did something wrong. "Sort of…"

"Well please don't stab anyone any more okay?" She asked me.

"I'll try but sometimes the whispers get too loud and I can't think right and they tell me to do things. I can ignore them when their quiet like now."

Mage eyed Warrior very strongly and made a gesture towards me.

"Alright, can you warn us when they get loud?" Hunter asked.

"I can try. It usually happens after her majesty uses my magic, or when general Elf is around but sometimes it just happens." I explain.

"She uses your magic? Like when she created those revenants?"

"Yea, but those weren't revenants. They were wights and how do you know about that? You weren't there."

"I can see through my hawk and watched the-"

Mage interrupted. "What do you mean they were wights? No one can just make wights let alone a dozen at once."

"We watched her kill half a city in a single spell, I'm pretty sure she's capable of a lot more than you think." Warrior reminded her.

"But if she has that many wights we're screwed, the three of us can't even take down one."

I piped up. "She has a lot more than twelve wights. She has like." I started counting on my fingers. "Hmmm less than fifty but more than thirty."

"Please tell me you're lying." Mage begged.

I shook my head. "I was there when she made all of them. Wait actually I think a couple only became revenants but most were wights, including the dragon."

Mage screamed a little. "She has a gods damn wight dragon? I think we should just surrender."

"You kidnapped me so if you surrender she'll kill you. She probably killed Brute and maybe Healer for letting something happen to me. Last time I ran away her majesty killed my guard and gave me a new one."

Hunter eyed me. "So you have your own guard and healer because you're the reason she can create wights?"

I nodded. "Yea." I held up my manacles and jostled my collar. "These let her control me and my magic and she keeps me around because I have a lot of magic. Can you take them off?"

Warrior and Hunter looked sad when I told them that. He answered me. "We talked about it and…" He shook his head.

"Oh. I really wanted to use magic again." Also they were uncomfortable sometimes, and I didn't like when her majesty controlled me.

"Well I'm going to bed." Mage said falling back onto her bed roll.

"I'll take first watch." Warrior said.

"I got second." Hunter said.
