The Weapon
Chapter 2 - A Girl
We reached a set of big open doors. Inside was the throne room and several bodies lining the sides of the room. The old banners that must have hung here had been taken down but nothing had replaced them yet. It created this hollow empty feeling to the room.
Standing over everyone in presence but not stature was the Dark Lord, her majesty Moria Godsbane Tiberinus the Invincible. Her glowing green eyes held a weight of authority that could yield even the highest king. Her black hair trimmed short to fit in her dark helm. Wisps of darkness curled off her like embers in a hearth.
Her mighty gauntlet glowed with runes paired to my bindings. Not just the collar chain but all of them. She alone could control every aspect of my body and magic should she be close enough, and she was.
The brute and the healer kneeled before her greatness but my body simply walked to her side. She did not utter incantations. Her will commanded my magic directly and forced it out. In a display of magic that made Ghost's army look like child's play she raised a dozen corpses under her command.
They were not dregs, they were wights. The most intelligent and powerful undead created from the corpses of powerful people. Despite their intelligence, her will was their will. They were the most terrifying undead in her army. Half of the honor guard were wights. The rest like the brute remained among the living.
I wanted to fidget, to move. Kill. Fight. Dance. Run. It was always worse when my magic was used. I couldn't ignore them. I was being pulled in a dozen directions and I couldn't move! I was standing loyal and still, screaming inside.
"Kneel." The word was imbued with such power that every creature save myself obeyed her. I would have if I could. The wights knelt before her. Her majesty was flexing, it was unnecessary she just liked to show off. Her need to be dramatic was her biggest flaw. Not that any would tell her that, except me the few times I managed to speak in her presence. She rarely gave me the opportunity anymore.
I noticed one thing out of place. That hawk outside the window. It was staring, watching us. That was one weird bird.
Eventually she needed to extract information from her new wights and I wasn't allowed to know anything important.
I left the throne room picking at my arms. I guess I should say I was dragged out since I couldn't move on my own until I was away from her majesty. The brute had the chain summoned because I was being 'unruly'.
The hawk was following me outside the windows. The other two didn't notice. I might hear things but I never saw things. That bird had to actually be there. I waved to the bird and the other two just ignored me beyond forcing me to go back to the room. The bird's eyes looked like a familiar amber color. I had no idea why.
As we reached the door to the room I was being kept in I saw a familiar trio of soldiers down the hall. I was still picking at my skin and I wanted to investigate them more but the brute was trying to force me in the room.
I fell to the floor. Just collapsed so she couldn't force me inside.
"Kallista stop making my job difficult and stand the fuck back up." She turned to the healer. "Can you put her under again? I can't stand her when she gets like this."
The healer shook his head. "I've been doing that too much as it is. It's not good for her long term health."
"I'm not going." I told them.
"I swear I need a transfer from this brat." She picked me up despite my attempts to cling to the floor. "Calder you're going to be on watch duty, I need a fucking drink." She threw me down on the bed.
"I can't hold her here alone." He shot back.
"Ugh I'll rope a few soldiers into backing you up. I need a break or I'm gonna snap. It's been eight fucking months of her whiny bullshit." She told him before exiting and slamming the door behind her.
I was on the bed. Rip. I started pulling the pillows apart. I had to.
In the middle of my work three familiar weird soldiers walked in. "These three will help you watch her until I get back." She turned to them. "Greenies it's your job to make sure she doesn't hurt herself or anyone else. Her majesty will have all of our heads if anything happens so good luck."
She left again.
The short brown one looked to the healer. "I-Is she always like this?"
"A little, she's a lot worse after being used." He explained.
"Used?" the amber one did not sound pleased.
"I'm not at liberty to discuss the specifics. My job is to help Nell keep her in line and heal her inevitable injuries." He looked at me. I had switched to biting my wrists. "Stop that! Can you three stop her from biting herself? She should stop getting the urge to self-harm within the hour."
The amber one came over and put a hand on my wrist to stop me. I spotted a dagger at her hip and lunged for it.
"Fuck stop her!" Yelled the healer.
I had the dagger in hand but the amber one tackled me on the bed restraining my arms. She was pretty strong. Not like the brute but definitely more than me. She was making this hard. I finally got my hands on a sharp object and I'm immediately restrained… again.
I struggled and writhed. "Let me go! I just need to find it."
The healer came over and pried the dagger from my hand.
The amber one looked at me, "What exactly is it?"
"It's it! I just need to get it to stop so I can think!" I shout at her. She was being mean.
"And you only feel it after your used?" She asked.
I nodded.
She turned to the other two soldiers. "Knock him out."
The healer got a confused look as the blue one punched him out.
The brown one complained. "What are you two doing?"
"She's a prisoner here and the source of the queens power. Getting her out of here will cripple the enemy and we'd be saving a young girl from slavery." The amber one explained.
"Look at what they've done to her!" The blue one told the brown one. "They keep her on a leash and she's trying to hurt herself because of what they did. We are saving her."
"Ugh just don't whine when we get caught." The brown one said. "This is such a stupid idea."
I stopped struggling as much. "You soldiers are really weird, and you have the same eyes as that bird."
The amber one sighed. "Look were aren't soldiers, we are adventurers and we're going to save you. Can you calm down?"
"I am calm."
"She's insane." The brown one said.
I snapped at him, "I'm not crazy! I'm not!" They looked at me like I was crazy. I wasn't. I heard things sometimes. The whispers told me to do stuff sometimes, but I wasn't insane. Tears started running down my face.
It's always been like this ever since I started using magic. People always treated me like I was wrong. They were scared of me. Mad at me. Calder was the only one who sometimes treated me like I was sane. Now he was on the floor unconscious next to a sharp object.
"She's going to cause a scene if we try to take her." The brown one complained.
The blue one sighed. "She's supposed to be better soon. Taena just knock her out with some magic and we'll take her out the way we came in."
"Fine but you both owe me big time." He chanted some words and I was put under a familiar sleep spell.
