Backstory

Khieh was born to a sex worker and raised in a brothel. Unfortunately her legs didn't work right and the brothel folks didn't want to raise a kid, so she ended up spending much of her adolescence begging on the streets with a rat she befriended. Unfortunately a passing nobleman curshed the rat underfoot and tossed it away calling it filth and Khieh had to crawl over to retrieve the corpse of her friend that she held onto because she didn't know better. Eventually the corpse rotted and she saved its bones. Khieh realized the fate everyone had assigned to her from birth was to die as filth like the rat and became increasingly terrified of death, and increasingly angry at the world that wants her to die.

Eventually she got old enough the brothel kicked her out and she stayed with some homeless folks in a camp outside of town. The city didn't want the homeless inside their city walls. They helped her get crutches and it was the closest thing to friends or even a family she'd ever achieved, until one dreadful day when visiting the small market near the shantytown when a necromancer attacked. In the confusion she was trampled and her crutches broke. Zombies tore into everyone, and Kheih was certain she was going to die.

Only when the zombies approached her they stopped and kept a small bit of distance and refused to kill her. Eventually everyone else was killed and turned and finally the necromancer came to find what had distracted his servants. He looked down on the broken girl stuck in the dirt covered in the blood of others and said, "It looks like Nerull favors you."

He left with his zombies and Kheih was left alone with the knowledge that a god had spared her. Without crutches and in a massacred portion of a defenseless market she crawled to a small refuge and prayed to this god that spared her to save her, over and over as she starved.

Nerull answered and gave her water. So she prayed more. Nerull gave her food. So she prayed more. Nerull gave her the clerical powers to heal herself and for the first time she was able-bodied, more than that she was empowered. She swore to serve Nerull in all things with the hope that the god of death would continue to spare her so long as she held faith and served.

Of course Nerull is an evil god of death and knows no generosity of kindness. He has a purpose for her that she needs to live to fulfill and he will keep her alive until she's served it and then discard her as filth the moment after.

The campaign had her eventually get into contact with Nerull's right hand servant, Nera who did nothing but look at Khieh with pity every time she did, as Kheih blindly served the thing that was planning to kill her.

Then it was revealed that Kheih had a magic bloodline on her dad's side that meant she was the last living creature that could fix a seal that was placed on Nerull's power, and finally finished breaking the seal for Nerull who physically manifested to gloat and ten kill her before being back stabbed by Nera killing him.

Unfortunately he was the only thing keeping Kheih alive so when Nerull died, she died, but Nera caught her soul and took pity on her and placed her back into her flesh on the condition she serve Nera, no, the Raven Queen as her first cleric.

Kheih accepted but found herself wary of trusting the Raven Queen, as she'd been favored and then discarded by a death god once before, and her life was once more tied to said death god.

Nera basically became her second mom only slightly more involved and helpful than the last one. Along with the raven she assigned to watch over Kheih. Kheih managed to save the world from a completely unrelated threat and eventually ascended to become a psychopomp/lesser death god/angel/saint of the Raven Queen
