Chapter 6 - (Unfinished)

Our new employer was gone by the time I dragged myself out of bed. Rue must have met her weekly quota for bloodshed because she was waiting for me downstairs.

"You sis." She greeted me. "Good news is she'll get us more of the stuff. Bad news we're going to finish waiting in a shittier inn."

I looked to the side and mumbled, "Sorry."

"Nah, if you didn't get us kicked out, I would have." Yea she probably would have. "Anyway we got a few more days to fuck about. Whatca wanna do? Wanna break into the royal archive for the hell of it? We could still go dungeon delving with the rich girl if we do."

"No, I still think it'd cause too much trouble." I thought about it for a bit. "When was the last time we had time to just sit around?"

"Dunno, like two weeks? Not since before we pissed of that priest in whatever that village was called." My wolf like sister smiled fondly at the memory of our unfortunate encounter with organized religion. Apparently my magic gem was 'heretical' and 'an afront to creation'. We had only been looking for a translator for the tablet.

"Does the church of Calena even operate in the capital?" We had a few run ins with the church since then, but the kingdom had a few competing faiths so I wasn't sure which was where.

"Don't ask me, you're supposed to be the brains of the group." Rue was plenty smart when she needed to be, which was almost never. Weird how I was the one who was illiterate up until my teens yet I had read more than she ever had. Not that I had a choice. Can't read if you can't see well enough.

Rue got excited all of a sudden. "I've got an idea, we can go clothes shopping! You've started filling out, and I definitely need some new threads." Her tank top was struggling to hold itself together and her pants showed a lot of leg. On the other hand, I definitely hadn't started 'filling out'. I was mostly the same ugly mess as when we left home, just a little bit older.

"Rue, you just said we didn't have much coin left. We had to ask someone to buy us more herbs." I was the voice of reason here, and she was the reason we struggled with coin. Well her impulsivity and our issue with property damage.

"Look I'll go ask around for some coin and we'll go shopping after." She meant robbing people. She was already getting up to leave.

"Rue don't leave me here." There were people around. We had to give our room keys back because of everything which meant I had nowhere to hide. What if someone talked to me.

"Oh? You want some sisterly bonding time?" She threw an arm around my shoulders. "Come on sis I'll show you how it's done." This is not what I signed up for, but maybe I can keep her from killing anyone.
