Trouble comes in Pairs
Chapter 3 - Rue the Day
(POV Rue)
The inn was a nice touch, maybe that Azura chick isn't so bad. She's also hot as fuck, but she seems to only have eyes for Winter. Whatever. It also helped that she finally gave us an excuse to go delve dungeons, I'd been bugging sis about that for weeks.
Zura came with to pay for the rooms we'd stay in while she handled her school buiz. From the sounds of it she wasn't bringing anyone else. We got to chill in luxury for a few days before roughing it in the woods again. Unless this was all a setup. If it was then Zura was a damn good liar, her heartbeat hadn't given anything away. I guess it didn't matter since me and sis could defeat anyone. It might be a little problematic if they used silver weapons but whatever.
Winter did her classic move of hiding behind me, and letting me do all the talking. She was always so fucking timid and accidently becoming one of the world's strongest mages didn't change that much. She had trouble doing basic tasks if they involved talking to anyone who weren't me or our uncles. Winter wouldn't last a day without me.
It took all of ten minutes at the inn before I was so fucking bored. If only there were a vindictive group of ass-wipes around to toy with. I got up to go look around town for something to do, and sis gave me her patented don't you dare start shit look. I ignored her and ran off to start shit.
Unfortunately the rich part of town was a bad spot to pick a fight, too many weaklings. So I went to one of the seedier parts of town. That kind that stank of despair and people who don't bathe. My ears were peeled for danger, and low and behold I heard in alleyway one street over some gang members talkin bout doing nasty shit.
Took me less than a minute to track their asses down.
"Yo, ladies, gents, and… fuck, anyway I couldn't help but over hear something involving some stabbing." I tried to be polite. Winter was always on my ass about not being nicer. Something something murder is bad or whatever. She's a fucking hypocrite.
"Get lost freak." Said a woman who must have fucked up her throat somehow, because it sounded like she was gargling someone's nuts. Oh well I tried being nice. I cracked my knuckles.
"I might be a freak in bed but ya don't have to fucking tell everyone." I charged faster than most of these shits could keep up with. I hit the one on the left with my claws while several daggers bounced off my hide. The next was a bite to the neck and a ripped out throat. I quickly elbowed the woman with the shit voice hard enough she spat blood and stopped breathing.
The young one, probably a recent join, tried to run. I usually let runners live unless they pissed me off, but I was curious about what they were planning before I had my fun. I grabbed her by the collar and dragged her back in. She tried stabbing me a few times before realizing it was hopeless.
"Please don’t eat me." She cried.
"Look I'm not gonna eat ya out unless you consent, K?" The terrified young woman didn't get it unfortunately. "Look, I just want to know what you guys were up to before we had our little tussle. After that you can go okay?"
"G-Gren mentioned a job we got hired for. Apparently, some noble wanted a white haired guy dead or something." No fucking way! She was, they were, oh this was priceless.
"Got any more deets on which noble and which white haired person?" I swear to the fucking gods.
"Some tray-bran guy from out of town. He wanted us to kill someone with white hair and red eyes who walks around in a black cloak." She just had to say it. Of all the fucking alleyway thugs I had to find.
I fucking punched the wall behind her causing her to yelp. "Was it just her dead or did he want something else?" Seemed weird that the magic rock wasn't mentioned.
"It was a guy from what Gren said, and yea it was a simple hit we get to keep whatever he had on him."
I groaned, that stupid rock caused so much fucking shit. I'm gonna bitch Zura out about her shitty sperm donor. She better not have had anything to do with this. "Get lost girl and forget about the job." I may have been a bit angry at the misgendering but that wasn't this girls fault.
She ran for it and I licked the blood off my claws. Gods it's so hard to keep my nails clean. I wonder if this lot are from as blood thirsty a gang as the last group. A girl can dream.
I made my way back into the inner ring. The guards were the same ones as when I left and they noticed the fresh blood. A bit of intimidation got them to look the other way. As long as they aren't idealists I rarely have trouble with authority… unless I wanted to make things fun.
Now for the hard part. I could track down Zura and bitch at her for answers, or I could go check to make sure Winter hasn't accidently destroyed part of the inn… yet. She tends to get upset about those kinds of accidents.
Eh, it's too soon for her to accidently have unexisted something, so I'll go track down Zura. Good thing I made sure to memorize her scent earlier. Had to admit she smelled pretty good. Walking through the academy brought me to a dorm room. I was like 80% sure she was on the other side of the door. Then again Winter was the one who understood math so…
I pounded on the door and an elevated heart beat was followed with a sight that I was 110% sure was the tall sexy brunette. "I was in the middle of… Oh, it's you. Where is your shadow?"
I snorted. "Hiding in her probably intact room."
Little miss noble raised an eyebrow. "Probably?"
"Your old man really not tell you about us?" Time to fish for info. Wolves are good at fishing, right?
"Only his hatred and covetous nature. The events of Whitehallow are more public knowledge." She answered. Her heart beat had calmed down but it was elevated before I knocked. Kinda hard to read if she's lying.
"Ah, well she has accidents sometimes, like Whitehallow." I grinned at her.
She was visibly shocked, "A town vanishing was an accident?"
"Kinda, it was a bit of a mess. Anyway, her actual accidents are much smaller. The room might be missing a wall when I get back." There it was. I could see the mild regret at hiring us and paying for the room herself in her name.
"So why are you here?" Looks like the princess is done with the small talk.
"See these blood stains." I gestured to my once white tank top. "The new ones are from some thugs someone hired to kill my sister, and I wondered. Did you have anything to do with it?"
Her expression said confused and her heartbeat didn't sound nervous. "No. Why would pay thugs to kill you after spending so much on two rooms for the two of you. My father's issue with you both is his problem."
I studied her face, scent, and sounds. Either she was the best liar I'd ever met or she was telling the truth. "Your father hired them."
"This is the first I've heard of it, but I can't imagine why he'd hire common thugs." She looked at me and I shrugged.
"Well just know if you hang out with us, your fathers shitty goons might come after you. I hope you can handle yourself." I gave her a smirk.
"I'll be fine, I'm more worried about your sister's accidents."
"Nah it's fine. She's never hurt me with them, and she hates me." I turned to leave. "Anyway, I'll let you get back to fingering yourself."
Hopefully sis didn't have a panic attack while I was away. I hated seeing her like that. At least she had a private room to hide in, being alone usually helped her but not always. Being a big sister is tough, especially when I'm just about all she's got left. At least I get to fuck with her like any respectable older sibling. Seeing her scowl at me really made it all worth it.
Arriving at the inn I looked to the second floor and got a big fat grin on my face. Looks like Winter's sharing my room tonight.
