Chapter 7 - New Direction
A fun aspect of my shroud was that I could control the temperature reduction, which lowered its mana cost. For my trip into the city I was going to leave it barely on for training and to bug people who spend too much time near me.
I made it back in seven rifts. Immediately got a room at the inn, bathed in soothingly chilly water, and then went to sleep. Next morning, I went to the adventures' guild to ask for a fire dungeon with creatures between one fifty and two hundred. The receptionist actually seemed shocked to see me. I was about twenty levels higher in my main class now, and alive.
I slipped her five gold from my stash in order to make sure she got me a nice hot dungeon of my desired level range and lack of highly intelligent creatures. It was rather far away down near Morhill, but there was a volcanic dungeon.
Time for travel. I spent a bunch of money on a map and compass, this time I was heading there solo since I could move much faster without company. I also got more food since I ended up dipping into the stash I got off the dead guy, which helped me learn that magically stored food does not age, so basically I'm a walking refrigerator?
For navigating I decided to rift not just forward but into the air for that perspective. Since I fell somewhat slow and couldn't get hurt falling, I just rifted fast enough to stay air born until my mana ran low. Thanks to a bit of ice magic, running out didn't happen often, Rifts were still my highest cost technique when doing long distance person sized ones. I also couldn't really meditate when travelling like I could remotely slaying creatures.
The mountains around Morhill and Ravenhall came into sight two and a half days in to my travels. Which was like moving at almost sixty miles an hour while ignoring all terrain. My elevated teleportation actually trained my mountain climber skill a bit.
Turns out I packed more food than necessary sine it took less time than I thought to reach Morhill. Morhill was definitely the smallest settlement I'd visited. Since it was the third that wasn't actually saying much. I slept in a bed since it was a tad more comfortable than the ice tents and snow piles I'd been using. That reminded me to buy a sleeping bag.
I set off the next day to find that volcano dungeon. Turns out the mountain spewing smoke stood out a bit. I 'landed' near the cavern entrance after looking around. Unlike the blood and poison dungeon that no sane person would every go to, this dungeon had three people outside. They were dressed in black outfits like they were a kind of customizable uniform.
[Mage - lvl ??]
[Tank - lvl ??]
[Ranger - lvl ??]
I didn't want to share... The mage spoke up. "Greetings. Are you here for this dungeon?" I nodded with a glare. "You should turn back, you aren't a high enough level to handle this dungeon and you lack support."
I rolled my eyes and went to walk past him. The tank put his hand on my shoulder and began to say, "You should really liste..."
I teleported past him. I heard one of them, probably the ranger, say, "Did she just teleport while grabbed?"
The mage teleported in front of me. "Miss the lowest level creatures in there are at level two hundred. I won't warn you again."
"Good to know." I turned on my shroud and set it well into the danger zone. Then I teleported him back to his friends.
I sat down at the entrance and started meditating while making small scouting rifts. They talked amongst each other, while I focused on scouting.
I found some kind of red drake thing, it looked kinda tough so I created a larger rift and sent some projectiles through till it bit the dust. Just to be a bitch I rifted the corpse to fall on the mages head.
The ranger laughed their ass off as the mage got covered in drake guts. I did it again just to make sure they knew it was me. The Tank came up to the edge of my shroud and asked. "How are you doing that?" I just made a rift next to his head and a void spear that I slowly stuck through next to his thick head.
"Like that." I had actually gained levels from my show-offy kills. "Void magic is very deadly." He tapped the void spear which cut into his flesh, though he lived up to his name when it stopped at his bone.
"Sharp." he said like a simpleton. I ended the rift and void magic and went back to scouting and slaying things over a hundred levels higher than myself.
The mage decided to say one more thing before they left. "If you make it to level 200 hundred you should head to Ravenhall, the order needs recruits like you."
"No thanks." They fucked off leaving me to my training. Occasionally plucking out a drake to train my heat resistance. There were drakes, fire snake spirits, a large thee mark fucker sleeping halfway into a pit of lava. I wasn't going to hit the three mark since I doubt I could do more than piss it off without many tons of stone to drop on its head.
A few weeks past and I headed back to Morhill for more food at some point. They didn't have as good of a selection of things as I liked, I might go to Ravenhall at some point just to shop. It seemed to be midfall. I hit level 52 in my ice mage class and level 100 in my void mage class. I was disappointed that I didn't get any evolutions but I did get a new skill in both.
'ding' 'Maiden of Winter has reached level 50. 5 Stat points awarded. You have learned the skill Active: Sapping Cold - lvl 1
Slow and weaken creatures hit with the chill of your ice magic.
Category: Ice Magic
'ding' 'Void Sorceress has reached level 100. 5 Stat points awarded. You have learned the skill Passive: Stellar Wings- lvl 1
Your understanding of the void allows you to form wings from null space. Become untethered from the ground to rise before any challenge.
I didn't even pay attention to the cold one. Wow actually flight, not rifting to approximate flight. I may have squeed in joy, and dropped my training to fly around like ditzy teen. My wings were that void black like my spears but unlike them there was a speckling of tiny star like lights. They were gorgeous.
I finally hit the maximum level for cosmic rift at 2nd level 20. I felt like there had be another tier but training didn't affect it. I also got 2nd tier in frost and shroud of winter.
Active: Frost- 2nd lvl 1:
Create ice from your mana to attack your enemies or cool a drink. You can control the ice through your ice manipulation.
2nd stage: The ice you make is denser and benefits from your resistances.
Category: Projectile Magic - Ice Magic
Active: Shroud of Winter - 2nd lvl 2
Create a region of winter surrounding you where you control how cold it is. Below freezing other creatures take ice damage in the area and your resistance to magic damage is increased by a static 20.5% [30.75%].
2nd stage: The longer a creature is within the area the more damage it deals to them by 1.1% [1.6%] per six seconds to a maximum of a static 100%.
Category: Aura - Frost Magic
The longer something tried to melee me the quicker it froze to death good to know. It was weird knowing that it was cold enough to kill the average person in under a minute of being in my presence. My ice being stronger was noticeable as it started carrying its weight when slaying creatures. Before then it did modest damage while my void magic was actually killing my foes.
I decided to rift another drake to me and kill it with only frost magic. It took like five minutes and I'm pretty sure my shroud did more damage than my ice spears. It didn't stand a chance with my level 17 heat resistance being boosted by around 136% while below half health with the remainder of the damage being split between mana and health. The fire dungeon was so much less dangerous than the blood and poison one was.
I did eventually go in to the dungeon. The passages were lava tubes which looked neat, I didn't find any treasure which sucked. I barely spent my mound of coin but It'd be nice to horde more. While inside I may have touched some lava. It fucking hurt, but it didn't disintegrate me and I healed with null body.
With how essential my regeneration was I almost wished I'd gotten a healer class for my second. Ice magic was still too awesome to pass on though. I had my own built in AC, I could make things out of ice, it kept strangers and monsters from getting close, and lastly It countered fire very well which was very common when identifying strangers. Ice is bae.
I did want to do a fire training session with a bunch of drakes, but I was worried they'd burn my hair off. It was shaggy from months of fucking around godforsaken places, but it was also long and feminine. It made me happy. Maybe I could defend my face with either ice, void, or a rift. I could make a lot of tiny rifts now. Maybe a layered defense?
I went for it. I nabbed five drakes from their natural habitat into my frozen pit fight. It fucking hurt even through my resistances, damage reduction, and pain reduction. I ended up attacking them to end it early I got two messages.
'ding' 'Heat resistance reaches - 2nd lvl 1'
'ding' 'You have learned the skill General: Pain Tolerance lvl 1
Being a bit of a masochist, you have learned to ignore some of the pain. No, only physical pain. You're feeling a little more numb towards pain but careful...the damage is still being done!'
'ding' 'Fear Resistance reaches - lvl 7'
The dungeon was running low on things that weren't the young trakorov, and winter was approaching. I decided to take a break and see what I can buy in Ravenhall.
After using portals and flight to head in the general direction that the map said Ravenhall was in I spotted the settlement it was a city hidden in the mountains definitely bigger than Morhall. I landed out of sight of the gate guards and accessorized. I swapped my battle worn priestess robes for my skirt outfit, and made some bracelets form ice, I forgo-ed the goth halo as it was excessive and didn't mesh with the rest of the outfit.
I reached the gate and had to pay a stupid toll. Next time I'm sneaking in with a rift. There was a lot of hustle and bustle. The most stand out thing was more of those black clad people whose levels I still could not see. The one guy mentioned level 200, were they all at level 200 or higher?
I decided to eat at this really fancy place called the Golden Drake, I almost left when I heard the prices but I waited in line for this so I ordered. People kept giving me looks for my mildly disheveled appearance. The food was so good that I was definitely coming back here at some point.
I got a room in the nicest inn in town, it was cheaper than the restaurant. I really needed to count my money. But not near civilization, I bet there are people with thieving classes around. I asked the innkeeper about the black clad people and she looked at me like I had two heads. They were called the Shadow's Hand and they were high level mercenaries. The dude wanted me to join his mercenary gang? No thanks.
I ordered some custom clothes, got a nice necklace, and another dress. The dressmaker in town was like twice the level of the last one so I spent some gold getting a fancier dress. She'd even make it fit with my void and ice theme, and be durable and stain resistant. Dress making magic was wild. She said it'd take several weeks.
I tried to find a library to ask questions but apparently if I wanted info there was some archivist for the Shadow's Hand. Unfortunately, the guy only dealt with people in their little club so that was a bust.
I flew back to my dungeon and resumed training while I awaited my new dress. The elementals further in the dungeon didn't know what hit them. Black holes forming out of nowhere, the area plummeting in temperature while ice shards dug into their living fire bodies. Turns out creatures made of warm didn't like becoming very cold. I was going to need to find a new dungeon soon because this one was small and starting to become hard to track down creatures that weren't that three mark.
I contemplated trying to kill the three mark but my two problems were I couldn't make a big enough portal to drop something on it, and I couldn't create a portal in the lava for it to fall through, oh and it was too big to fit in said portal. I needed mana regen, and meditation was my main source of it.
I made it to levels 133 and 89 respectively by the time I left in search of something new.
