Divine Dreamer

Chapter 8 - Secret is not my middle name! (unfinished chapter)

"Ah fuck." Nora swore while I laid atop/beside her invisibly. Her eyes flickered between her friends and I, and she winced. Then a moment later her arm squeezed my trembling body tight.

The taller guy spoke up. "Did she just… disappear?" Utter disbelief filled his voice.

"Holy shit, is your girlfriend a ghost?" loudly exclaimed the other. Enough that it kind of hurt.

With an accusing finger from her hand not trapped under me, Nora pointed at the loud one. "Keep your voice down. No she's not a ghost." Her finger then targeted the guy. "Give me a minute."

"Roger." Her confirmed before slipping off his shoes while the shorter one curled in on her self muttering sorry. Then having done that he headed off down the hall.

My uhm, date then moved her hand over to find the top of my head, then patted gently. Leaning close she whispered, "Look they're both cool, but I don't know how you want me to handle this. Talk to me?"

Short shallow breaths escaped me along with small trembles. My mind flipped from shame and embarrassment to fear and anxiety so fast my thoughts kinda halted completely. Worse I couldn't escape into my temple nor could I move or form words to attempt to speak or even move. I uhm, I felt trapped. Trapped and trapped and stuck and my breathing picked up as my mind slowly pieced together how much I'd just messed up.

In fact my mind got so stuck I hadn't noticed the shorter one walk over and sit near us on the couch. Then in a stage whisper they asked, "Is she still there?"

Nora sat a little more up pulling me into a tight hug. She stage whispered back, "Yes and she's a minute away from having a panic attack, give her space." And with that the other got up and left. Still holding me she held me close. Her voice shifted down into that domineering tone. "Find five red things."

My mind latched onto the command and my eyes wandered around looking for red objects. The massive rainbow flag on the wall had a red stripe. The tv had a red glowing dot despite being off.  The uh, the carpet looked maroon which was technically red, and uhm uh, shoes. There were some red converse shoes. That was four, uhm one more. In the exposed kitchen an old red fast food fry container sat there. Five.

I blinked. I found the five and… and I felt a little less tense and more thinky. My tail started thumping against the couch as all my anxiety went into tail movement. All of it. It was a lot.

"You doing alright?" the nice woman holding me asked continuing to be too nice and good for me.

I shook my head slightly.

"Melanie?" What was she—

Gah! Invisible, right. I uhm, peeked around and found no one else in the room. So I maybe turned visible again, a little flex of my will that I wanted to be seen by Nora. Then I shook my head slightly again. No, not alright.

One of their hands reached around and found my phone and pushed it into my hands. "Gotcha, so here's the deal, you don't seem to be in a good space for talking about this. So unless you tell me otherwise, I'm gonna tell them the bare minimum, and make sure they keep quiet about the whole magic thing."

My brain reached for a better thing to do, but came up blank because brain wasn't at 100% after the whole date and stuff. I felt a lil exhausted and emotional whiplashed and uhm. [Okay.]

"Good girl." She purred into my ear, and elicited a small squeak from me.

After a few minutes of cuddling, the shorter roommate peeked out of the hallway. A moment later they walked in, eyes fixed on me. "So uh, how'd the date go?"

"Pretty great." Nora patted me on the head. "Melanie's utterly adorable, and watching the light in her eyes flicker out as I collared her…" She bit her lip and I still imagined a large fang that should have been there. "Yea, I'm keeping her."

My face flushed several shades of read to be talked about like a possession, and the collar around my neck and the roommate watching and um. I nestled into her hold, eyes down. My big dark floofy tail curled around Nora… wait. Uhm.

I forgot to keep the tail hidden.

So it immediately vanished and the claws went back to normal and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!

"Mel, cats already out of the bag on the whole magic thing." Her tone equal parts resigned and patronizing.

"Magic?!!?" Her roommate practically screeched. Then a moment later in a hushed whisper she added, "Oh sorry, Mel. But freaking magic?!"

"You tell anyone about her I'm shanking you." Nora casually threatened. "So yes, the cutie has magic. You don't get to bother her about it, you don't get to out her. She's got enough on her plate without you making things worse."

The guy walked past a moment later heading into the kitchen. "Okay, but is there a danger to us knowing? Like with secret magical societies?"

"Nope. Not to our knowledge, and she's pretty sure earth is magic free minus her."

"Oh! Oh! What can she do? Besides the invisible thing." The couch roommate practically bounced in her seat. "Can she summon fire?"

"No fire in the apartment." chided the guy in the kitchen.

Nora paused talking to them to look down at me. "Hey, is this too much? Should I take you home?"

Without looking towards the other two I held up my phone with a single word displayed. [home]

And with that she casually moved me off of her and stood up, her hand offered to help me up. Pulling me up to my feet she turned to the other two. "I'm taking her home." Nora headed for the door and then slipped her shoes on and waited for me to do the same. "Where are your shoes? Oh and do you want to keep the collar?"

My hand shot up and touched the collar as my tail swished. Quickly fumbling with the little latch thing I took it off and handed it to her while hiding my blush. Then looked to my feet and illusioned my boots back.

"Foxlet, have you been barefoot this whole time?" Her hand casually plucked the collar up out of my offering hands. She received a meek nod. "Ugh, alright, come on."

The shorter one called out as we walked out the door, "It was nice meeting you!"

Nora threaded her fingers between mine and walked me all the way to the car. The sun had already dipped below the horizon but darkness hadn't quite fallen fully yet. There were a few people outside and I double and triple checked my illusion was good.

We arrived at the car and she gave me a big hug. "Since I can't do this in front of your family." The taller woman grabbed my chin between her forefinger and thumb and pulled me up to face her. A small little growl escaped her lips. "I meant what I said earlier, foxlet, I had a lovely time tonight and I think you've earned a kiss, unless you have any objections."

Beat red I shook my head.

She leaned forwards looking down on me, her body pressed up to mine in the parking lot as all the other noises fell away and it was just me and her. Then in a hushed whisper she added, "I can't tell what that no is for, can you tap my arm twice if you're cool with me continuing."

Tap tap.

"Thought so." A massive sinister grin stretched across her face for a heartbeat, then another passed and her fingers gripping my chin pulled me in. Her lips pressed up against mine.

My tail wagged. My thoughts hitched as I felt her lips against my own for a moment before she pulled back. It felt weird. Not bad but not like everyone described kissing as this big fancy thing. The intimacy and knowledge that she'd just given me my first kiss clashed with the underwhelm of it?

Oh and I brought up my hand to wipe my lips, well more my arm as I sort of brushed it along to get the sensory memory to go away because it lingered and I didn't like how touch sometimes did that.

"Did you not like that?" Nora released my chin and stepped back looking a bit anxious.

I held up my phone and magically typed. [I didn't not like it.]

"But you didn't like it."

My phone lowered as I stared down at my feet, having messed up again, everything I'd done tonight was mess up.

"It's okay to not like it… can I hug you?"

I nodded and felt her arms wrap around me, pulling me back together.

"
