Damsels and Dragons

Chapter 6 - Friendly Answers

"Nissa, this is Millicent and Daniel. Dan, Mille this is Nissa."

I looked down on the two of them, I was really nervous. I'd never been around more than one person at a time before.

Millicent was uh plump? I don't know what the right word to use was. I'd never seen someone who was like that before, not that I'd seen many people in general. She had short chestnut hair, green eyes, glasses, and wore a cute navy dress. She looked scared.

Daniel was taller than the other two, he had fuzz on his jaw, less than the Leo guy. He had black hair and grey eyes. He also looked strong and muscly but not super muscly. He wore a white-ish shirt and black trousers held up by straps. He didn't look scared. I couldn't quite tell what his reaction was.

I had gotten up and taken a few steps back without thinking, I was scared about meeting them. I know Liv said that Millicent could help but still. Meeting new people was scary and I wasn't desperately starving anymore, though I was still hungry.

I noticed a lot of new smells, Daniel had a bunch of meat in his little back pack. Millicent had a lot of odd smells from hers. I could also just smell all three of them. I actually noticed Liv from her scent right before she yelled out. I got a weird dragon nose on my weird dragon snout.

Liv spoke up. "Are you guys okay? No one's saying anything and it's kinda weird."

I was nervous about talking so I waved.

Daniel waved back, "It's nice to meet you… Nissa."

"S-Same." I replied.

Millicent started looking less scared and more of something else. I was surprised when she exclaimed. "Oh My Goddess it's an actual freaking dragon! The things I could do with the scales, a bit of blood." She was salivating.

Dan corrected her. "She not it, and you're here to help her not steal her body parts."

Millicent blushed. "Sorry."

I'd never had someone apologize to me before, Linda never made mistakes but I did. I didn't know how to handle it.

Olivia spoke up, "So can you help her or not?"

"She looks exactly like a dragon, but I'll get out my tools and see if I can find anything else." She got some things out including some lenses that went on her glasses. "So, Nissa was it? I need the details on this potion that you got splashed with. Its color, smell, any visible ingredients in it, did it bubble, how big was the container, etc…"

I thought back on it. The deer before, the tripping, and being wreathed in flames had kinda distracted me. I thought back to grabbing the three potions. I saw the two red ones land elsewhere so it had to have been the blue one. I thought about how it smelled and stuff.

She was inspecting one of my hands or front feet? I could still grab things with them so that made them hands right? I held it in place so I didn't accidently hurt her like I did my clothes or that tree Liv had me chop.

"I-It uh was blue and bubbled, I don't remember it smelling at all like the others did." I described the best I could

"What kind of blue? Light, dark, dull, vibrant, glowing…" She didn't even stop poking me with stuff. I could barely feel the prodding and she was having trouble getting past my scales.

"L-Light but glowy."

"Hmmmm." Liv and Daniel also looked at her when she made that noise.

He asked what we were all wondering, "So what is it? Can you fix her?"

"No." She said bluntly, "I'm not detecting any active potions, enchantments, or curses. From the sounds of it the potion was likely one of dispelling magic. Definitely not transformative."

Liv spoke up, "That doesn't make." I nodded in agreement. I was definitely magically transformed.

"Wait, didn't you say that the witch kept her in a tower her whole life? What if she was a dragon the whole time and the witch had cursed her to look like a person." Daniel just threw out that definitely impossible theory.

I had to correct him. "L-Linda was a mage, not an evil witch! Also, I was definitely a human when I woke up yesterday. I've always been a person. I can't be a d-dragon."

He gave the other two a look. Liv just gestured for them to follow her as she walked away. What?! Where were they going without me! "D-Don't leave me, please."

She just yelled over, "We aren't leaving. I just need to talk to them."

What could they need to talk about around me? They were probably talking about me so why couldn't I know what they were saying. It wasn't fair. The kept talking and even struggled to keep their voices down as they argued.

My stomach made a noise and they all looked over. "S-Sorry."

They walked over and Liv started setting up a campfire. Daniel set down the pack full of meat.

Millicent reached into her pocket and pulled out a shiny thing. My eyes were fixed on the shiny yellow disk she held. She moved it around and I watched the very pretty object. I always liked shiny things, I had a small pile back in my room in the tower. She then hid the shiny object.

"Why did you hide it? I wanted to look at it more." I whined.

"Have you always liked gold or is this a new thing?" She asked.

"Th-That was gold? I've never seen something so pretty. I like shiny things but that was far prettier than anything in my stash."

"Stash?"

"Oh uh back in my room, I had a little pile of objects I liked. Okay not everything, I kept my books on a shelf. How can I get one of those?" I really wanted one but it was rude to take things that weren't mine. Linda made that really clear. I did end up taking the potions which was a mistake. I guess I learned my lesson, stealing was wrong and I shouldn't do it again.

They were all looking at me. "D-Did I say something weird?" Liv just smacked her face with her palm. Daniel started laughing at me. "S-Sorry." I apologized not knowing what I did wrong.

Liv spoke up, "Nissa you're fine… it's just that it really does sound like you've always been a dragon."

"B-But I was a human! I was small like you three and I live in a tower that I couldn't even fit in if I was a dragon! I'm not a dragon." I got three looks that felt sad, but not sad in a crying way. I was very confused. I wasn't around people enough to understand their 'body language' as books liked to call it.

Daniel was the one to talk after my outburst. "How about after you eat you show us to the tower? Maybe we can find more clues there."

"I uh don't know where it is. I got lost." I told him.

Liv looked behind me, "I think I can figure out where you came from."

"Really?" I followed her gaze looking behind me. There was a trail of large foot prints and broken trees. "Oooooh."

They all laughed at me. I didn't like it when they did that.
