Damsels and Dragons
Chapter 2 - Plea for Help
"Shit! Is that a fucking dragon?!" I heard someone say. The voice was like how mine was rather than Linda. That must be a guy.
"Yes…" Said a lighter voice, lighter than Linda's which meant a woman I think?
My eyes were still closed as I didn't want to get up. I was still tired but more in a lack of energy way instead of a sleepy way. On the other hand there were people nearby. I could even smell them. My sense of smell was a lot stronger, painfully slow. I had put a lot of effort into trying to ignore it as I was kind of overwhelming.
Wait people means food! Like they could get me food, I don't eat people. I'm not a real dragon it's just a potion that hasn't worn off… huh.
Alright me, time to say hi without scaring them.
"Fuck it's waking up!" The male voice yelled.
I cried out in my awkward new voice. "W-Wait! I'm not a monster!"
I saw a guy who looked a bit older than me. He was small… okay everyone looked small now. He had blond hair with a red tint and a small beard. The man had a bow and back pack over top leather armor.
The woman was my age. she had long brown hair and a similar set of equipment. Unfortunately I couldn't get a better look because they were running away!
I got up to follow. They were the only other people I'd ever met I needed them. "P-Please wait up. I-I got uh cursed and I'm lost." I was gaining on them due to how tiny their legs were compared to mine. I was struggling to move but desperation helped.
"Fuck off monster!" Yelled the guy.
"Leo what if its telling the truth?" The woman asked. "It sounds desperate."
"Desperate to eat us! Its fucking chasing us down."
What? I looked like a dragon but I already told them. Why wouldn't he listen. "I just need help p-please." I was tearing up.
The woman slowed her pace as she turned and saw me. "Leo its literally crying."
Leo kept running. "Nice knowing ya Liv."
I caught up to her while Leo disappeared into the forest. I stopped a bit before her and lowered my head a bit. I didn't really know how to talk to people that well. Linda was rarely home, I only knew from books but I was having a hard time remembering how people normally talk in those. "Uh, h-hi." I waved at her.
Liv was fully facing me and she had blue eyes and a very pretty face. She even had a cool scar over her right cheek. She was able to look at me mostly at her eye level thanks to my lowered head. "Hello, I've never spoken to a dragon before…"
"Oh, I'm not a d-dragon. There was this uh potion that spilled on me. Normally, I um, look like a person." I explained, I knew I messed up the pronunciation on the words a bit my mouth was still weird and an hour or two of practice had only gotten it somewhat understandable.
"A potion turned you into a dragon?" she did weird things with her tone. Books described being able to tell if someone was angry or sad or stuff, but well, I couldn't tell. She looked like a person speaking.
I nodded wiggling my oversized head. "I-I was running from a m-monster and tripped. The potion uh fell out and onto me."
"Right… Gods this is so strange. Where did you get a potion that could turn you into a dragon? Are you a witch?" Liv asked.
"I-I may have taken from Linda's secret stash. P-Please don't tell her! I'm not supposed to be outside of the tower because of monster, but uh she hasn't been home and I ran out of food." My stomach rumbled punctuating my point but it was really loud because I was so big now.
"I promise I won't tell… Linda. Wait you aren't talking about Linda the witch are you? She was finally caught by the inquisition a week ago."
"Um Linda's a mage not a witch. She goes out to get food and stuff because of all the bandits and monsters. I was chased by a really big deer that was going to kill me!"
She burst out laughing. "Wait you were scared of a deer? You?" She gestured towards my temporarily huge body. "Wow you really aren't a dragon are you? But I don't know of a Linda other than the witch."
"I said I wasn't… So um do you have any food? I'm hungry and haven't uh eaten in days." It was getting oddly painful to have gone without food for so long and then get turned into a big thing that likely needed to eat even more than I normally do. I normally ate a lot more than Linda, she always complained and told me to eat less. I tried but then I was left feeling really hungry a lot.
"I don't know if I have enough to feed a dragon. Or well a person who looks like one. Can't you catch something? You're pretty fast."
I was taken a back. "I-I don't know how to hunt. I lived in a tower because of how dangerous the world is. Also I haven't seen any animals since I uh transformed." It was true, I mean I didn't lie I'm not even sure how to lie. Lying seemed really hard, like what would I even lie about and what would I say. It was hard enough figuring out how to talk with someone without lying.
"I guess I didn't think about it but you would scare off everything around. Also I'm not sure why you think there are so many dangers around here. Like sure sometimes a bear or a wolf wanders through the area but this is not a monster prone region, and we don't have any bandits out here."
"But Linda told me there were."
"She could have lied to you."
"Linda wouldn't lie, she raised me and kept me safe!" Why was she being so mean to Linda, she spent days away to provide for me. She even had a safe tower that would keep out anyone looking to hurt me. I was the one who always messed up and got yelled at.
She took a few steps back with her hands raised. "Alright, alright. Look If you wait here I'll go see if I can't catch a deer or something."
I was used to waiting. "O-Okay uh, do I just wait here? Also what about the vegetables and bread. I don’t have my normal cooking stuff." Also she was going to slay a deer she must be really strong.
"R-Right you're not a dragon. Look I can't exactly bring a whole kitchen out here. But I'll see what I can do okay?"
"Okay." I was forgetting something… Oh right! "Thank you."
She smiled, "Don't thank me yet, I have to catch one and I think you scared them all off."
"S-Sorry."
She laughed and wandered off. I knew I'd find someone nice to help me. When a hero is in need they always find someone to help. Now I just had to uh sit here. I plopped down. I was pretty exhausted from chasing them.
Welp I guess I'll just practice dragon stuff. Like talking. I wonder if I can breathe fire. Okay maybe I shouldn't try that in a forest. Wood burns and wow there was a lot of wood.
