Alone in the Woods

Chapter 16 - Charades (Unfinished)

The elf's companions looked… unhappy? The woman was rather angry sounding as she spoke to them. The knight spoke a quick statement possible backing her up, or something. Being unable to understand their language made there exchange basically unfollowable. The fact that I had trouble reading people I could understand only made things worse.

Oh and the hunter guy was glaring at me, which made me want to hide under a rock. I looked around to find there were no proper rocks to hide under. Dang it.

Wolf mom could still communicate, though her body language was a bit muted it didn't affect her ability to be upset at me. It took her a moment to remember she promised not to get angry at me. My hands were shaking. It took a bit to get her to agree not to hurt them so I could let her go. I didn't like restraining wolf mom like that, it made me feel like a bad daughter.

I let her go while the unintelligible chatted. They did start to freak out when I let the giant wolf free while they all remained trapped, well all of them but the elf. Wolf mom walked over to my side and I gave her a hug, that I really needed.

The elf started talking to me. I didn't understand him and the only way I could communicate that was by talking back. I took a moment to center myself so I could talk. "Um, I-I can’t understand you?" I said questioningly.

They said several things that sounded so different I had to assume they were trying a few different languages. None were English. I just shook my head hoping that translated to no for these people as well. They were being clam so I decided to let them up, but the others were still raging so I wasn't letting them up.

The elf was now free, and wolf mom growled at them as they stood. Neither one made any motion to attack. Thank goodness. They said something which I assumed was thanks along with a bow towards me. I had never been bowed to before. I hope I hadn't been too rude, they were being nice.

They gestured in the direction of the other three and then motioned upwards. I assumed they meant they wanted me to let the rest go. I didn't know if that was safe the woman and the hunter looked mad still. The knight actually looked rather bored. I motioned towards them and made a sword swinging motion and then pointed to wolf mom and me. I hoped that conveyed, 'are they gonna attack?' The elf took a moment before the knight told them something.

The elf pointed at the others and then themself. I tilted my head, 'what?' They repeated it, still not sure what they meant. The woman groaned, but neither she nor the other restrained people we capable of moving enough to gesture themselves. The woman actually yelled towards me, and I moved a bit to hide from her behind wolf mom.

The elf then held out their spear, which got wolf mom to growl, pointed at the others then dropped the spear. Okay that had to be a they won't fight I hoped. So I let the knight and woman go. I refused to let the hunter up, he had been glaring at me and hadn't spoken much to the others.

They chatted some more between themselves, then the woman forcefully gestured to the hunter while practically shouting at me. I hid further from her around wolf mom who growled at her. The woman actually raised her mace towards mom.

The knight grabbed her mace holding hand by the wrist and pulled it back, and spoke to her before pointing at wolf mom. The woman ripped her arm from his grasp but set her weapon down. The knight was the one who gestured towards the hunter, and the hunter said something to his standing companions.

I assumed that was the knight asking why I hadn't let the hunter go. Okay how to tell him that the hunter was a buttface who tried to murder me before. I walked over to the hunter, mom kept close, and grabbed the broken remains of his bow. I pointed at him, then the bow, then me. The standing three looked at me weird. I didn't know how to be clearer than that.
